Easy access to Memphis public pools

The City of Memphis has an easier for you and your family to take advantage of public community pools this summer. You will need a City Access Card to attend any City of Memphis pool. The cards are free and can be obtained at any Memphis Library. You can also use the card to check out books from any Memphis Public Library. You do not need to obtain a City Access Card if you were previously issued a City of Memphis Parks and Neighborhoods Pool identification card.

U of M announces NCAA ticket information

The University of Memphis men's basketball team is going "dancing" again in the NCAA Tournament.

On Thursday, March 21, the Tigers will face the winner of the first-round game between Middle Tennessee and St. Mary’s in Auburn Hills, Mich. Game time for the Tigers’ second-round game will be determined.

The University of Memphis will receive 550 tickets, priced at $75 per session, for the NCAA Tournament Second/Third Rounds to be held in Auburn Hills on March 21st and 23 . The University will hold 200 tickets for Thursday’s game. These tickets are reserved for U of M students, which include team, band, spirit squad and their sponsors, and for the U of M administration, athletic department officials and student-athlete family members.

An additional 350 tickets will be reserved for use by the Tiger Scholarship Fund. Platinum and Gold Tigers will be limited to two tickets each and will be given from 8-10 a.m. Monday to call and place their ticket orders.

Fantasy football is typically played online and allows players to virtually manage a team of real life players.  The better a player does in real life, the more points for their fantasy teams.

According to ask.com, nearly 50 million people play fantasy football.  To some, this “sport” has become more popular than the actual game itself. 

So when some of those participants were unable to “manage” their teams this past Sunday, the outcry of frustrated fans was well documented on social media.

One of the largest providers of fantasy football, Yahoo! Sports, experienced technical difficulties with their computer servers. 

Preventing those who participate in their fantasy football leagues from making changes to their rosters before the noon NFL games began. 

Prime time, for many “owners” who chose to wait until the last minute to set their team lineups to account for injuries or last minute news that might affect game play.

Here’s a fun, economical and healthy activity that the entire family can enjoy! 

Community Skate Night will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Christian Life Center at the Ridgeway Baptist Church on 2500 Ridgeway Road.

Skating begins at 5 p.m. and goes until 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 per person and concessions will be sold. 

Skates will be provided, no outside skates allowed and if you skate, you must wear socks! 

Roller blades will not be allowed and all skaters must be accompanied by an adult.
