Murder investigation underway after woman killed | Crime

A murder investigation underway in Memphis as police work to find out who killed a 49-year-old woman in her Hickory Hill Apartment.

The family of victim Cheryl Jones said she was shot in the head.

Police said they responded to her apartment after getting a call from the fire department.

Friends said Jones' life should not have ended this way.

"I know she's going to be missed around here cause we all looked at for each other - when she knocked we knew to answer the door - cause we knew she was looking out for us as well," he said.

Police have charged Ralph Carr in the murder of Jones.

According to the police affidavit, Carr admitted to beating Jones in the head with a hammer.
