A group from Memphis is heading to the nation's capitol for President Obama's second inauguration. The bus caravan doesn't leave until Saturday the 19th, but this weekend theygathered at Koinonia Baptist Church on Millbranch for a planning meeting.

The church also organized a trip to President Obama’s first inauguration. Some who attended that inauguration spoke at the weekend meeting about their experiences and offered advice to this year’s first timers.

They also talked about this year’s itinerary which includes a trip to the Martin Luther King Memorial. “I think for us to go and be a part of it – to see it – to hear the inaugural speech - just be a part of this momentum,” said Organizer Regina Osei.

“This is a moment in history that may never come again. So it’s vital for us to be there and to be a part of that.” Pastor Roosevelt T.

Joyner points out what could be more fitting than the president’s inauguration happening in the same month as the Emancipation Proclamation celebrated its 150th anniversary. The group will depart on January 19 and return on the 21. There are still spots available. If you're interested in going, contact the event organizer, Regina Osei at (901) 299-1220.
