All Memphians will get a chance to share their ideas for the city’s future during an Imagine Memphis event to be held from 9am to 12 pm, Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Christian Brothers University in the Thomas Center 2nd Floor Dining Hall.

Leadership Memphis along with Memphis Mayor AC Wharton and the Memphis Grizzlies Team Up Mentoring Initiative will seek public input for the City of Memphis’ 5-year Strategic Plan and recruit adults willing to mentor area youth.

Imagine Memphis is a Leadership Memphis initiative that involves local high school students interviewing, and being interviewed by community and business leaders about ways to heighten the strengths and values of the city.

Imagine Memphis is designed to help participants imagine the Memphis they desire, and the role they can play in making Memphis a better place to live.

“This is an ideal opportunity for our young people to play an active role in shaping the future of Memphis,” said Mayor AC Wharton. “We have some incredibly talented, intelligent and creative young people in our city and I am excited about this opportunity to pick their brains and use their ideas to help develop a dynamic, comprehensive and inclusive plan for Memphis.”

Adults participating in Imagine Memphis are encouraged to extend the experience into a mentoring relationship through the Grizzlies Team Up initiative.

“The interaction that takes place between the youths and adults in the Imagine Memphis process gives the adults a taste of what it could be like to engage in a mentoring relationship,” said David Williams, President  & CEO of Leadership Memphis.  “After this experience many of our leaders decide to step up and share their time, wisdom and knowledge with students who often just need someone to pay positive attention to them.”
