Messick Adult Center Registering for G.E.D. Courses

Registration for Messick Adult Center Set for Monday, August 3, 2010

Are you an adult looking for a way to complete your high school diploma or

GED?  If the answer is yes, then don’t miss fall registration at Messick

Adult Center.

If you’re seeking a high school diploma and have at least 15 credits, you

can register for Adult High School on Tuesday, August third, from 10 a.m. –

3 p.m. and from 5 – 8 p.m.

If you’d like to get your GED, you can register for GED testing or classes

on August 19 and 20.

Messick is located at 703. S. Greer.  For more information about our

Fire Station 22 to open Monday

The Memphis Fire Department will celebrate the opening of Fire Station 22 at a ceremony on August 2.

The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday at the station, located at 2960 Lamar Avenue in Memphis.

Hollywood Casino supports Responsible Gaming Education Week

On Monday, August 2, 2010 Hollywood Casino® Tunica will launch its week long “Bust the Slot Myths” educational campaign to support the American Gaming Association’s Responsible Gaming Education Week held August 2 – 6. 

This year’s American Gaming Association’s (AGA) theme, “Taking the Mystery Out of the Slot Machine,” will focus on educating casino employees and the public about how slot machines work and correcting some of the misconceptions about them. Understanding how casino games work is a key component of responsible gaming, and helping gaming employees learn more about how slot machines work is an important part of empowering them to educate casino patrons about what it means to keep it fun.

MCS Regional Health Clincs to open Saturdays

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - To provide parents additional opportunities to have their children receive the necessary vaccinations or physicals required to attend school or participate in athletic activities, MCS Regional Health Clinics will be open Saturday, July 31 and Saturday, August 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New program makes getting utility assistance easier

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A new program should make obtaining utility assistance much easier for residents of Shelby County.

The high demand for utility assistance has been causing long lines at the Shelby County Community Services Agency office for weeks. Some people have waited hours to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program.

Attorneys to provide free legal services to seniors

AutoZone Inc., and Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in conjunction with Memphis Area Legal Services will host its second annual "Give a Little, Help a Lot" pro bono legal clinic on Tuesday, July 27.

The event will be held at the Orange Mound Senior Center at 2059 Park Avenue from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Attorneys from Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, along with attorneys from AutoZone's legal department will donate their time and expertise to assist seniors in preparing important documents, including advance care plans, health care directives, durable power of attorney forms and wills.
